Whittington -Fred Earl

Fred E. Whittington Sr., 83, of 712 Prospect St., a retired Mid-States Steel & Wire Co. employe, died Tuesday evening in Culver Hospital. He had been ill two months. Mr. Whittington, who retired in 1955, was a 50-year member of Montgomery Lodge 50, F & AM, and a member of the First Baptist Church. He was born May 15, 1890 in Montgomery County, a son of Sherman and Sue Todd Whittington. He was married to Grace L. Hightower on July 3, 1917. She died Sept. 5, 1971. Surviving are three sons, Fred Jr. and Jack of Crawfordsville and Dick of Madison, Wis.; a daughter, Barbara Mackey of Newbury, N.Y.; a sister, Mrs. Everett Paxton of Crawfordsville; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Hunt & Son Funeral Home with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Thursday. Masonic services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday. - jlr
